This Week's Quotation:
Hineh mah tov umah na’im shevet achim gam yachad!
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for people to dwell together in unity!
Psalm 133:1
How Good and Pleasant It Is
In the Jewish tradition, these words attributed to King David are regularly sung and chanted when people gather together. When vocalized with others, they engender connection and elevate the vibration of those present and the occasion for which they are gathering. This exclamation is both revelatory as well as directive.
This short sentence reveals that we are Divinely designed to live in unity and harmony with others. It is our natural state to be with others in generative ways that allow the uninhibited expression of the creative process. It is our birthright to experience the genius and gifts of others as well as ourselves.
These words are also an exhortation, reminding us of our personal responsibility as Creator Beings to direct our energy toward the actualization of unity, coherence and harmony in all aspects of collective life. We have a vital role in this and we fulfill that role by bringing the activating energy of our mindfulness and skillful effort.
Mindful Explorations
What in my consciousness is allowing togetherness and belonging? What in my consciousness is impeding, diminishing or blocking unity from actualizing in the fields I am a part of? In what ways am I contributing to the coherence and harmony of my community, family, and the world? In what ways might I be detracting from it through my attitude and behavior?
