NEWSLETTER
April 2014

At our Monday Community Core Power sessions, we have been considering courage—what it means, what it looks like, and how we can embody it. Courage, of course, may appear as perseverance in the face of hardship; but on a smaller scale, it can mean honesty with oneself, standing up for personal beliefs, and accepting one's true identity.

This month, as we witness budding trees, returning birds and later sunsets, let us consider how we can emulate spring's courage and come forth to own our sense of self. We are excited to welcome new faces, steward new projects, and continue living in primal spirituality.

In this issue:
  • Welcome, new interns and students!
  • Permaculture Design Course sparks new sustainability ideas
  • DavidKarchere.com launched April 2
  • The Art of Living: May 18–25

Grace and blessings on your path,

The Sunrise Ranch Community

Welcome, Full Self Emergence interns, Farm and Garden interns and Culinary Academy students!

The Full Self Emergence program, Farm and Garden Internship, and Culinary Academy began April 14. Interns and students met and enjoyed a welcome dinner on April 11. We are excited they have joined the Sunrise Ranch community and look forward to friendship with each person.

Over the next 7 months, the group of 15 Full Self Emergence interns will delve deeply into their primal spirituality and discover their potential through community involvement and personal exploration.

The Culinary Academy kicked off with a lesson in homemade pasta. The first week of cooking classes offered a chance for the future chefs to get to know one another
and sample a few of the gourmet meals from the Sunrise Ranch kitchen.

Eleven new Farm and Garden interns have begun learning about sustainable farming and holistic agriculture. Senior Interns Jessica Krepel, Andrea and Robert Dutchover-Reynolds, and Sonny Freeman received scholarships for this year's Permaculture Design Course. Their experience in the course and last year's Farm and Garden Internship offer a solid foundation for the 2014 Internship program.

Congratulations to the newest group of
Permaculture Design Course graduates

The Permaculture Design Course at Sunrise Ranch ran from April 2–11 and provided 11 individuals insight into creating regenerative and abundant natural systems. They learned a wide variety of skills that are useful in creating human habitats that mimic nature and provide for all our food, water, energy, and building needs. The Permaculture Design Course is a life changing experience and we are honored to certify each of our course participants with an official Permaculture Design Certificate.

New growth in the greenhouse

The garden team has been working hard to plant seeds and begin food production in the greenhouse. The sprouting plants will be transplanted into the garden in the next few weeks. It won't be long before the seedlings become salad bar items in the Sunrise Ranch kitchen!

Seattle fish company
Chefs Joel and Ace explore more seafood options for Sunrise Ranch

From Chef Ace: "Chef Joel and I went to Denver for the day. We were invited to a food distribution company to talk about possibilities with them.

One of the biggest highlights of the day was our tour of Seattle Fish Company, which is based out of Denver. We were able to go in and see their warehouse. We watched products come in, get cleaned and hit with ice, then sorted as well as fabricated. We were also able to watch how the product goes out the door to customers.

We're excited about this because Seattle Fish Company takes pride in their sustainable fishing practices. They're very selective about whom they work with on the oceans and very selective about what fish come in their doors. The company itself is also sustainable, a leader in the industry...it's a very cool thing and we're excited about the possibilities of bringing more fish to our menu!"

The Mondo Zen™ retreats offer men and women the opportunity to experience the “answer” to this question in a way that transcends all hope, fear, and doubt.

Excerpt from The Pulse of Spirit:
Primal Spirituality is the spirituality that we are born with, that is innate to who we are before we ever encounter any kind of religious training or teaching, or any kind of spiritual path. This is the spirituality that is built in, for each of us. Our Primal Spirituality is meant to blossom and expand over the course of our life. We are designed to grow into the wisdom and understanding that a little baby does not yet have. We are made to grow in strength without losing our Primal Spirituality so that our ability to bring power into the world—the power to create, the power to manifest—increases over the course of our life. Continue reading...
