11-Day Permaculture Design Course Intensive
March 28th through April 7th
Now being offered together with:
Presentation given by Patrick Padden at Ignite Fort Collins on the topic of permaculture
Course Content
In this course, you will learn: regenerative design studies, full loop waste systems, food forest design and implementation, community scale fruit and vegetable production, plant propagation, greenhouse operations, home/community scale composting, fractal patterning application, water harvesting, pasture management, rotational grazing strategies and implementation, home scale permaculture, food preservation and storage, social permaculture and much more. This course will be teaching the permaculture curriculum originally established by Bill Mollison and David Holmgren. Click here to see a manual developed by the Permaculture Institute based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, that we will be using in this course.
Facilitators:
Patrick Padden
Patrick Padden, a graduate of Colorado State University, studied natural systems building design in Namibia and urban food forest implementation in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 2007. In 2008, Patrick obtained his permaculture teacher’s certificate from Sandy Cruz and Becky Elder of the Permaculture Institute. Patrick received his design certificate from the International Permaculture Design Course in Harare, Zimbabwe, and attended the International Permaculture Convergence in Malawi in 2009. After four seasons of producing naturally grown food for 80+ people at Sunrise Ranch, Patrick is now co-manager of the garden and a practicing permaculturalist and permaculture educator.
Joel Glanzberg

Joel has broad experience in environmental design and ecological restoration projects, particularly in the arid regions of the southwest US and Latin America. He has also worked extensively in the field of regenerative agriculture, including recent agricultural restoration projects in Maryland, Hubbell Trading Post and at the Rodale Institute in Pennsylvania. He has worked as a consultant to the City of Santa Fe on watershed restoration, where he has helped to design and implement programs for restoration as well as public education and engagement. Current work includes collaboration with internationally known environmental artists Helen and Newton Harrison on restoring the Santa Fe River watershed and with pueblo basket weavers on the Pojoaque River.
Joel Glanzberg has practiced, studied and taught permaculture for over twenty years on three continents. He has worked on scales from large community development, farms and ranches to small urban and homestead sites. Engagement and integration of all communities and the large contexts in which the site is nested is a primary focus of this work. See www.regenesisgroup.com for more information on his work.
Kelly Simmons
Kelly Simmons is the manager of the Sustainable Practices program at CU Boulder and an experienced permaculture teacher. She holds degrees in Ecology and Education, as well as Permaculture certificates in design and teaching. She has taught permaculture in a variety of venues, including Swarthmore College, Bali, Indonesia, Naropa University and Central Rocky Mountain Permaculture Institute. Her work has included guest appearances on radio and as an invited panelist for community discussions. She has also written articles that have appeared in Permaculture Activist magazine. Kelly lives with her family in south-central Boulder where she bicycles to work, grows a perennial polyculture of food, keeps bees, chickens and more.
Jason Gerhardt

Jason Gerhardt has been applying permaculture design in diverse bioregions from the deserts of Arizona to the fresh water lakes of New York since 2005. As an emerging voice of permaculture in the US, he is known for detailed knowledge of plant ecologies, rainwater harvesting, seed biodiversity preservation, urban food production, and integrated ecological design. Jason has used permaculture in the development of a bioregional seed endeavor, developing ecological food production systems, and working with community organizations to apply permaculture principles on a range of scales. Jason currently teaches a permaculture program for Naropa University and instructs in numerous workshops and courses annually. He has taught for many well-respected organizations including Prescott College, Denver Botanic Gardens, and Transition Colorado. Jason practices ecological design professionally as Real Earth Design.
Sunrise Ranch, Loveland, Colorado
About Sunrise Ranch:
Since 1945, the people of Sunrise have stewarded the land and water supply as a sustainable ranch and farm. Nestled in a valley between red sandstone and pine-covered hills, Sunrise Ranch has been practicing the principles of permaculture for over 60 years. As a result, Sunrise boasts some of the most diverse ecologies, mature food forests, and integrative eco-social designs found in Northern Colorado. As an intentional, spiritually minded community of 80+ people, Sunrise demonstrates practical solutions for addressing issues of food and water security unique to this climate, as well as maintaining social designs that foster the creative potential of a community working together. Plums, pears, apples, peaches, apricots, grapes, asparagus, raspberries, currants, and blackberries represent a few of the established perennials here. Grassfed beef and pastured chickens freely graze our fields. Throughout Sunrise’s history, individuals and groups have come here to move to a different rhythm, to see their lives and their work with new eyes, and to bring fresh energy to their world.
