The farm internship is designed to be mutually beneficial: farm interns learn about sustainable farming practices in both hands-on and classroom settings while farmers are assisted by the physical labor interns provide.
Interns also get the experience of living in community in this residential program. Join us in raising nutritious food in harmony with natural cycles and systems.
Major Components of the Farm Internship
- Hands-on experience of raising and selling grassfed beef
- Gardening with lunar cycles & without chemicals
- Building capacity for hard physical labor
- Studying the practices and principles of sustainable agriculture applied on our farm
- Teamwork and living in community
Program Requirements
- Between April and October 2010, participation in a minimum of either 3 or 6 month increment.
- Desire to deepen understanding and ability to live in harmony with the natural world.
- Ability and willingness to do physical work for 40+ hours per week.
- Ability to follow through with commitments and take direction.
- Ability to live and work with others creatively and respectfully in a community setting.
Program Highlights
- Nutrition and FarmingĀ – especially the work of the Weston A. Price Foundation.
- Grassland ecology and grazing planning based on the work of Holistic Management International.
- Planning vegetable production with lunar cycles and extending the harvest season.
- Permaculture and composting.
- Introduction to local wild plant use as food and medicine.
- Natural pest and weed control.
- Business planning, record keeping, and accounting on our farm.
- Teamwork and communication skills.
Beside the education and experience described above, interns receive:
- Room and board in communal housing (dorm)
- A $125.00 per month stipend
- Food and prepared meals
- Use of Sunrise Ranch facilities and grounds
